Burnham on Crouch

Client: Burnham on Crouch Primary School and Essex County Council’s Capital Builds Team
Artist: Tom Pearman
Location and Date: Canvey Island, Essex 2009

Tom Pearman’s input involved integrating artwork into the redesign of the school, including an architectural glass application to the new assembly hall main glazing. A series of artworks that investigates our relationship toward the built environment were created, exploring how we perceive the architecture that surrounds us.

Employing the mechanics of a simple ‘sliding puzzle’, Pearman attempted to answer these questions by a glass artwork puzzle that perhaps asks questions itself ‘In education, aren’t the right questions more important than the right answers…?’

Tom conducted a series of model making sessions with the school children exploring rules of perspective and how these can be adopted to create the illusion of depth.
